Schools, districts and school years

A district holds its schools, a school its teams, and a team its classes. Every class sits in a term — usually a school year, sometimes a summer session or a single semester.

School years

Terms live on the Classes page, behind the settings button at the top, which opens Classes Page Settings. Display term chooses which one you are looking at, and Edit terms opens the list, with each term's dates and how many classes are in it. A term a teacher made is hers to edit or delete; the district's are not.

One of the district's terms is its current one: where a new class goes when nobody has said otherwise. In Edit terms, the menu beside a district term has The district's current term — only a district or Mastery Board administrator sees it, and one term per district carries it at a time. Nothing else moves it, so at the turn of a year somebody has to.

A term can't be deleted while classes are still in it, because they would go with it. Move them to another term first.

What a district administrator alone can do

• Say which term is the district's current one.
• Move a child to another school in the district: on the class's list of children, the menu beside the child has Move, and a School to choose before the team and class.
• Run every school in the district — its people and its teams.

Their record goes with them, so that school's teachers can see them. They leave any class they were still in at the old school, and every class they leave keeps what was recorded in it.

Adding districts and schools, renaming them, deleting them, and taking someone off a school altogether are Mastery Board administrators' work, in the Admin area: Users, and Districts & schools with Add a district and Add a school. A school stays in the district it was made in.

Deleting a school or a district takes its classes, children, marks and change log entries with it, and asks you to type its name first.
