Inviting a teacher or an administrator

Everyone comes in by invitation. You enter their name, email and role; they choose their own password.

There is no sign-up page. An account exists only where an invitation was sent to that email address, so nobody joins your school by finding Mastery Board on their own. Accounts are for staff: a child has none, and there is nothing to set up for one.

  1. Open Teams and choose Invite someone.
  2. Enter their first name, last name and email. Names are school records, so you set them, not the person joining.
  3. Choose a Role: Teacher, or School admin. Mastery Board's own administrators can also choose District admin.
  4. Where you run more than one school, choose the School — or the District, for a district admin. For a teacher, choose the Team they start on, or leave it as No team yet.
  5. Choose Send invitation.

What each role opens: a teacher sees the classes on the teams she is on; a school admin runs one school, its people and its teams; a district admin runs every school in the district.

The email carries a link. They choose a password, and then set up an authenticator app before they can do anything. The dialog offers Copy link as well, and says when the email could not be sent, so you can send the link yourself.

An invitation works only for the address it was sent to, and it expires 14 days after you send it. Forwarding it to somebody else lets nobody in.

Withdrawing one

An invitation nobody has accepted sits on the team's card, marked Invited, with the day it expires; one that names no team sits under Not on a team. Open the menu beside it and choose Withdraw invitation. Any administrator over that school can, not only whoever sent it.

One that ran out stays where it is, marked Invitation expired, so you can see why they never joined. Inviting the same person again replaces it.

An invitation is only as good as the administrator who sent it. If they are stepped down to teacher, or taken off the school, the invitations they sent there that nobody has accepted are withdrawn. Send them again yourself.
