Bringing in a class list from a spreadsheet

On the class's Students tab, beside Add student, is Upload student list. It reads the list you already have and adds everyone on it in one go.

What the file needs

• An Excel file (.xlsx) or a CSV, with one child on each row.
• A first name, a last name, and a Student ID if you have one, in any order.
• Headings such as “First Name” help, and a title above them is fine. Download a blank list to fill in gives you one.
• Up to 300 children in one list. An older .xls is not read: save it as .xlsx or .csv first.

What it asks

1. Choose the class list. Mastery Board reads it and shows Check the list, numbered by the rows in your spreadsheet.
2. Check the First name, Last name and Student ID boxes above the list, and the checkbox saying which row is headings. Change any it guessed wrong.
3. Read down the list. Each row says what will happen: new, already in the class, back in the class, or a child already at your school.
4. Where a row could be a child you already have, say which. Then press the button at the bottom, which says how many it will add.

Nothing is saved until you press it. A row with no first name, and a name listed twice, are left out, and say so.

What it will not do

It matches names only against the children you can already see: those in your teams' classes, and any you entered yourself. A child in another teacher's class, on a team you're not on, is added as a new child, not offered as a match. A Student ID is the exception: an ID is looked up across the whole district, so it finds the right child wherever they are, and is refused if they are at another school, or if their name doesn't agree with the row.

It doesn't keep itself up to date. When the class changes, add the child by hand or upload the list again — anyone already in the class is left alone.
