Adding a class

What Add a class asks for, which term the class belongs to, and who can see it once it is made.

A class is the children you teach for one stretch of school. Everything else hangs off it: the children, its Mastery Boards, and every mark recorded on them.

  1. Open Classes and choose Add a class.
  2. Give it a Class name — whatever you call it, such as “Mrs. Haedge's Class”.
  3. If you're on more than one team, pick the Team it belongs to. Teacher starts as you.
  4. Pick the Term it runs in, then choose Add class.

The term it runs in

A class belongs to a term — a school year, or a shorter stretch such as a summer session — and the Classes page lists the classes in the term it is showing. A class made while you are looking at last year belongs to last year, so read the Term box before you save. If the term you need isn't in the list, choose Add a term… and name and date it there, without leaving the dialog. The settings button beside Add a class changes which term the page shows.

Getting the term wrong loses nothing. Open the class's three dots, choose Edit, and set the right one.

Who can see it

  • Everyone on the team it's on.
  • Your school's administrators.
  • Your district's administrators.

Your own classes come first on the Classes page, under My classes, and your teammates' follow in a section named for their team. A teacher on another team doesn't see your class or the children in it. Children never sign in at all.

Changing or deleting it

The three dots at the end of a class row, and at the top of the class's own page, hold Edit, which asks the same questions again. A class can move to another team at its own school, but not to another school. Delete is in the same menu, offered to the teacher whose class it is and to administrators: it asks you to type DELETE in capitals, and erases every mark recorded in that class. The children keep their place, and their work, in every other class they are in.

A class belongs to its team, and everyone on the team can open it and change what is on it. Who is shown Delete is the only limit on deleting one, so put on a team only the people you would trust with each other's classes.
