Adding children to a class

Add a child by hand on the Students tab: a first name is all that is required, and a Student ID keeps one child one child.

Children go in on the class's Students tab, one at a time. There is nothing to send home and nothing for a child to sign into — a name is enough to start recording.

  1. Open the class and choose the Students tab.
  2. Choose Add student.
  3. Type the First name. Last name and Student ID (optional) can be left empty.
  4. Choose Add student again. The form stays open with the cursor back in First name, ready for the next child.

The list is sorted by name, so a new child lands in the middle of it, held in colour for a moment so you can see where.

A name you already have

If the name is near enough to a child you can already see — anyone in your teams' classes, and anyone you entered yourself — Mastery Board stops and says whose. Spacing, accents and a letter at the end make no difference to it. Going on makes a second, separate child with their own history, which is how one child ends up recorded twice. If it really is a different child, choose Add anyway.

A child in more than one class

A child can be in as many classes as they are taught in — yours and the reading teacher's, this year's and last. If you type the Student ID of a child already at your school, Mastery Board puts that same child in this class with everything already recorded about them, and says so. A child who was unenrolled from this class comes back with all their work.

A Student ID that belongs to a child at another school is refused, and so is one that belongs to a child at your school with another name. Moving a child between schools is a district administrator's to do.

To fix a typo, use the three dots at the end of the child's row and choose Edit; a misspelling left alone is how one child becomes two. Unenroll takes a child out of the class and keeps every mark. Only a school administrator can delete a child outright.
