Marking one child at a time
Press a child's name on the grid to record only that child, with targets big enough to press without looking.
The grid suits a paper you are typing up afterwards. When the child is beside you — at the guided-reading table, or taking a running record — press their name in the Student column. The page gives you that one child, and it is the same marks entered the other way round.
Their name is a large picker at the top: press it to move to another child. Each name in the list says where they are up to — a percentage, “not recorded”, or “absent” — so you can take children as they come to you. The corner says how many of the class you have recorded so far.
What you press
- A question paper: Correct, Half or Missed for each question.
- A checklist: Yes or Not yet.
- A rubric: the numbers on its scale, 1 up to the top.
- A skill with letters or words on it: Start, then tap the ones they missed.
- Anything else: the − and + buttons count the points up and down.
On a question paper or a checklist where no skill carries words, a pair of choices above the list marks every one at once — All correct or All missed, All yes or All not yet. Leave blank anything you didn't ask; the foot of the card shows the percentage, the score and the level as you go.
Absent is at the foot of the card too, and a notes box sits under the last skill. Done takes you back to the whole class.
The two views are one set of marks. Anything you enter here is in the grid when you press Done, and anything typed in the grid is here.
Next
- Marking a whole class at onceThe Assessments tab puts every child down the side and every question or skill across the top, and saves each mark as you type it.
- Marking the letters and words a child missedWhere a skill carries the actual letters, words or sentences, press Start and tap only the ones the child missed.
- Absent children, and notesMarking a child absent leaves that unit out of every average, and a note keeps what you noticed with the unit it belongs to.
