Bringing marks back from Excel
Import Scores takes the marks you typed into a workbook Export Board saved and puts them on the board they came from, a unit or several at a time, after checking whose file it is.
Some days the spreadsheet is what is to hand: at school when the site is blocked, or at a table with no signal. Mark in the workbook, and bring the marks back when you are next in the app.
- Type the marks on the unit's tab of a file saved with Export Board: 1, 0.5 or 0 on a Questions unit, points on an Items unit, a level on a rubric. Absent or Exempt goes in the Status column, and anything about the child in Notes.
- On the class's board, press Excel and choose Import Scores, then choose the file. It has to be this board's sheet: the teacher, the class and the board it names must be the ones you are on, or it is refused as the wrong sheet.
- Check whose file it is: the teacher, the class, the board and when it was saved.
- Tick the units to bring in and press Import. Only units with marks in the file are listed. The ones the board has nothing on yet are ticked already; a unit that already has marks on the board starts unticked, and ticking it warns you that the file's marks will be written over the board's wherever the two differ.

What it will and will not do
Afterwards it says, unit by unit, what went on the board, what stayed and what was left out. A blank cell never clears a mark; clearing is done in the app, where it is one press. A mark an item can't hold, a child no longer in the class and a column no longer on the unit are left out and named. Missed letters and words can't be typed in Excel, so a changed mark comes back without them.
An old file is safe to import. If the template has changed since the file was saved, the dialog says so before you choose. A question whose points changed since is left out and named, because a 1 out of 1 then is not a 1 out of 3 now. A question added since gets nothing from the file and is named, so you know to mark it in the app.
Any other spreadsheet is refused, however it is laid out. Only a file saved by Export Board says which board, class, child and question each mark belongs to, and that is what keeps a mark from landing on the wrong child.
