Templates and a class's Mastery Board
A template holds the units you teach. Put it on a class, and that class has a Mastery Board to record on.
A template is what you teach, written down once: the units or chapters you work through, and inside each one the letters, words, questions or traits you mark. On its own it records nothing. Put it on a class and that class has a Mastery Board — the same template, with your children's names down the side.
Build it once and put it on as many classes as use it. Each class keeps its own marks, and the same template goes on next year's class. Board Templates is low in the sidebar, under Set up. On a phone it is in the menu behind your picture.
Putting one on a class
- Open the class from Classes. It opens on Mastery Boards.
- Choose Add a Mastery Board.
- Pick a template from the list, then Add.
The list offers the templates you can use: your own, ones shared with a team you're on, and any published to your school. If none of them fit, Build a new template beside the list opens Board Templates.
A template is live. Change a word or add a question, and every class using it sees the change straight away.
Taking one off
Open the three dots on the board's card and choose Take off this class. It checks what is recorded on it for this class and tells you first, because taking it off deletes that. The template itself stays in Board Templates, other classes keep everything on theirs, and you can add it back to this class any time.

- Building a templateName it, add a unit, choose how you'll mark it, and type in what you mark. The board it makes is drawn underneath as you go.
- Making a template from a spreadsheetUpload the Excel file your team already records in, check what Mastery Board found in it, and keep it as a Board Template.
- Who can use a templateKeep it to yourself, build it with your team, or publish it to the school — and what each one means for classes already using it.
- Marking a whole class at onceThe Assessments tab puts every child down the side and every question or skill across the top, and saves each mark as you type it.
